The Basis Level, a blend of Kindergarten and Grade 1 of the Primary School, promotes a smooth transition from Kindergarten into Primary School. Children usually spend two years in the Basis Level. When they achieve the learning objectives of Grade 1, they are promoted directly to Grade 2 of the Primary School.
Age-mixed learning groups including individuals with different learning levels are central elements of the teaching and learning in the Basis Level which allows individual educational paths adjusted to each child’s development. The Basis Level aims to achieve a balance between artistic and intellectual abilities through a continuous focus on play, music, movement, creative arts, arithmetic, reading and writing.
In the Basis Level, the primary classroom language is either German or English depending on enrollment in either Profile D or E. The homeroom teachers are native-speakers of German or English as well as experienced specialists in early language acquisition. In both profiles, the complementary language (English or German) is instructed as the first foreign language. Thai nationals take additional Thai language lessons.
In the Basis Level, 29 lessons are taught per week on a partly flexible schedule. The school day lasts from 7:30 a.m. to 1:35 p.m., on Fridays to 11.55 a.m. Lunch is catered to the inner yard of the school building.
